About Fire + Fika

Why Fire?

Fires have been a gathering point for people across cultures and centuries—a place of warmth, storytelling, healing, and nourishment. They remind us of our shared humanity and the power of coming together. Fires have been some of my greatest teachers, and I invite us to return to them in that spirit.

What is Fika?

In Sweden, fika is a lot more than a coffee break its a ritual. It’s about pausing to reconnect—with yourself, with others, with nature, and with the beauty in life’s simple moments. It’s a gentle reminder to step back, slow down, and find rest in what surrounds us

Fire + Fika: Extending Love and Gratitude

Let’s gather in the spirit of extending love and gratitude to those around us. In times when the world seems to be moving so quickly in the direction of suffering and violence, let’s gather to slow way down, make some fun prints and write messages of love and gratitude to those around us.

We will gather in the morning to learn about a simple printmaking technique using tetra pac, an material usually destined for the garbage bin. We will take time to work with pencils and ink to construct small images to print on paper or fabric. And finally take time to write messages of love and gratitude to those whom we want to connect with again or continue to appreciate in our lives. To wrap it all up we will Fika at the fire with Karleksmums also know as Swedish Love Cake.

We all can use encouragement and community in these cold and dark times.

Fire + Fika: Bringing the Light

It’s been almost a year since the last Fire and Fika gathering at the house. Consider this invitation to come into community in the coldest and darkest month to bring together that which can burden us with what can bring warmth and light our way.

We will gather together in the morning to forage from the land, the now dried stalks of Japanese Knotweed (an aggressive invasive species) and use the hollow stalk segments as forms for poured beeswax candles.

We will take our time to connect the truth of our present and share resources to light our way in community.

Donations gratefully appreciated for candle making materials.
